OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICE
Independent OT ADL & FCE Assessments
Injury or illness can affect a person's ability to complete everyday activities, participate in the community and meet the physical or functional demands of work.
Occupational therapy assessment can help develop a clearer understanding of current abilities, functional limitations and the practical support that may be required.
Activities of Daily Living Assessment
An Activities of Daily Living (ADL) assessment considers how a person's injury or condition affects their ability to perform everyday activities safely and independently.
Depending on individual circumstances, this may include consideration of:
- Personal care
- Dressing and grooming
- Meal preparation
- Domestic activities
- Mobility and transfers
- Community access
- Functional independence
- Environmental barriers
Functional Capacity Evaluation
A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) considers a person's functional abilities in relation to relevant physical demands and activities.
The assessment may assist with understanding current capacity, identifying limitations and informing rehabilitation.
- Lifting and carrying capacity
- Standing and walking tolerance
- Sitting tolerance
- Reaching and handling
- Functional mobility
- Physical endurance
- Task performance
- Functional barriers
Why May an Assessment Be Requested?
An independent occupational therapy assessment may assist when further information is required regarding a person's functional abilities, support needs or rehabilitation progress.
- Understanding current functional capacity
- Identifying barriers to independence
- Informing rehabilitation planning
- Reviewing support requirements
